It’s been a humbling experience running DMC Atlanta for 15 years, and a testament to the legacy we look to leave on this planet. 15 years have gone by in a blink, made possible by the foundation of bricks laid by entrepreneur, yogi, and whiskey extraordinaire, Adam Dorfman, back in 2003. These bricks have withstood the test of time, economic crisis, marketing campaign changes, the pangs of small business ownership, and personal development and seem to get sturdier with each passing year. Along the way, we’ve gained some nuggets of knowledge, and in hopes of helping you build a career or business that extends a decade+, wanted to share them with you today.
Be impeccable with your word
This is a lesson we learned quickly, and one that if practiced, can set an individual or business up for long-term success. Your thoughts are yours alone, but your words are for the world. If you say you’re going to do something, even something as simple as making it to a dinner party or completing a work assignment by a certain deadline, you have to follow through. Whether you’re tired, unmotivated, apathetic or whatever the situation may be, if you uttered the words “I’ll be there” or “I’ll get it done,” get it done! Your word is your reputation, after all.
Always do your best
In some work environments, it’s easy to get lost in monotony. You clock in, do what’s expected, clock out, and the cycle continues. At DMC Atlanta, our business model is built to chew up and spit out those who get stuck in that mindset. There’s no room for mediocrity, and there’s no room for people who don’t give their best effort. Why? Because effort is controllable…and we want to play the game with those who go all in, not those with the average or lackluster effort.
Give back unselfishly
This ideal that grounds DMC Atlanta is something that helps separate the top echelon of businesses from others. Organizations that prioritize philanthropy and give back unselfishly to their community and encourage their people to do the same always seem to do better in business long term. Good karma? We think so. It’s been a privilege of ours to work closely with the Movember Foundation and raise over $100,000 for them in the last few years.
Surround yourself with great people
Had it not been for the caliber of people we chose to surround ourselves with, we would not have the privilege to celebrate this anniversary. Our company’s success is a product of our people, and we truly believe that we have seen further by standing on the shoulders of giants. Our team is as dedicated, charismatic, and ambitious as they come, and for any company to grow, they have to first look at the people they allow to represent their brand.
Work with passion and purpose and trust the rest will work out
Finally, we remind you, if you want to run a successful business, you have to let your passion consume you. You have to be so confident in the belief that your service or product is going to improve people’s livelihood and work with purpose in everything you do. When you do those 2 things, success is inevitable. We truly believe here at DMC Atlanta that hard work will be rewarded. It won’t be overnight, and it might take 15 years, but if you believe in yourself and what you’re doing, it will all work out.
